Most Countries Around the Globe to Quit Smoking, Except Indonesia in 2023
Most countries see a drop in smoking, except for Indonesia, which is expected to increase the number of people smoking by 2030. According to the data released by a recent study, revenue in the smoking Tobacco segment amounts to USD 59.33 billion in 2023. China has generated the most revenue in the smoking tobacco segment, which is USD 13,110 million in 2023 in the global comparison.
Globally, there will be a slow shift away from smoking tobacco over the coming years. It is forecasted that there will be a decrease of between 3 to 4 million smokers between 2021 and 2030. In the United States, smokers are expected to fall from 67 million to 63 million by the end of 2030. But a recent data also shows that U.S. adults are the biggest spenders buying cigars. Young Americans buy tobacco around USD 37 per capita in 2022. Other countries that spend much on expensive cigars are Qatar, Iceland, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Britain. But these prices are again aided by the fact that these countries also have high price levels and taxes on tobacco.
According to the World Health Organization, over 80 percent of the world's 1.3 billion tobacco users are from low and middle-income countries. Also, more than 8 million people fall prey to tobacco every year, including 1.2 million deaths from exposure to second-hand smoke.
