  • New Findings In The Sodium-Ion Batteries Proves Cost Friendly To Support Clean Energy Transition In 2024

Lithium-ion batteries are gaining momentum due to increasing demand for electric vehicles in light of the clean energy transition. However, the industrial sector is finding different alternatives to lithium-ion batteries for various applications. A study finds sodium-ion batteries with high power and energy as a robust alternative to lithium-ion batteries in 2024.

Lithium-ion batteries have grown with the progress in clean energy transition. This is due to electric vehicle development for the greener transformation as it causes fewer emissions. However, lithium-ion batteries have certain demerits that force researchers to find a better replacement for untroubled clean energy transition in 2024. Researchers develop a better alternative to lithium-ion batteries with solid-state sodium batteries in 2024. Based on the research conducted by the Osaka Metropolitan University, researchers undertook a process where mass synthesis was done for the sodium-containing sulfides. It is noted that mass synthesis of electrolytes is the basis for all-solid-state sodium batteries, along with high conductivity. In this process of mass synthesis, formability plays a pivotal role, too. The researchers considered sodium the main component due to its low cost and natural abundance.

According to a paper published in journals about sodium-ion batteries, researchers have developed a phenomenon that causes mass synthesis. This process of mass synthesis gives rise to solid sulfide electrolytes. Solid sulfide electrolytes developed from the mass synthesis process again led to the highest sodium conductivity. It also leads to the highest amount of glass electrolyte with high formability. The studies show new research proves that sodium ion reflects the highest conductivity. However, the main reason for accelerating sodium-ion batteries is the abundance of solid-state sodium batteries compared to lithium-ion batteries. The green energy transition highly requires rechargeable batteries to support the transformation effortlessly. Therefore, sodium-ion batteries can be an excellent alternative to lithium-ion batteries in terms of availability and cost prices.
