  • Plant-Paper Based Battery New Game Changer For Clean Energy Transition

The green energy transition is achieving new heights with the interest of consumers. Clean energy transformation aims to reduce carbonization and other harmful environmental emissions by the end of 2050. Therefore, much research in this regard is gaining momentum in 2024. Recently, a study showed paper can be used to build batteries in greener ways in 2024.

Researchers mention that the experiment inspired the paper battery from how a plant breathes. They considered the lightweight and recyclability nature of the paper to make this research for plant batteries a success. Thus, the researchers, keeping the nature of paper and plants in general, developed this engineered battery in 2024. This plant-paper-based battery is expected to be environmentally friendly and a source of green energy. Experts say that paper has been considered a better option for this plant-paper battery due to its lightweight. Paper-based devices are lightweight, reducing the dependency on plastic or metals. Simultaneously, discarding paper-based devices is more accessible as they can be recycled easily and are not harmful to the environment.

Researchers are getting more insight into paper-based diagnostic devices as they are a better alternative than conventional ones for power generation. At the same time, it is economically affordable for use. Taking the idea from the plant’s respiration mechanism, the paper-based battery is developed with the magnesium air and activated by water. Thus, the paper-plant-based battery generates power from oxygen and water. Experts believe plant-paper-based batteries can be a game changer in the present energy market. This is due to the low expenditure on producing such batteries and their capability to contribute towards the clean energy transition.
